2017/18 Season Information (715 KB)
Welcome back and welcome new families to the 2017/18 season of junior cricket at the Wembley Districts Junior Cricket Club (WDJCC). Please see below for general information about playing cricket with the club this season.
Friday evenings at Pat Goodridge offer a fun, family-friendly introduction to cricket for children from pre-primary to grade 3, as well as our Girls T20 Competition. From 5 pm until 6/6.30 pm each group participates in skills sessions and short games. There is a sausage sizzle each week.
There are 12 playing dates for In2cricket & T20: 13th October 2017 to 23th February 2018 (with
a break for Xmas).
Please indicate any requests to play with friends, team, etc, via the comments field on the electronic enrolment form.
WDJCC is currently looking to fill paid roles for T20 (mixed & Girls) staff. Training will be provided by the WACA upon appointment. Please contact the club to express your interest.
Year 3’s have a choice of playing either T20 on Friday night or U10 on the weekend. Parents should be aware that if they play U10, they will mostly be
playing against Year 4 teams, and that they will play U10 for 2 seasons. That said, some will be very ready to move on to U10. Generally, Year 3 U10
teams have a great time and their skills improve quickly.
Building on the success of recent years' programs, the WACA are offering a number of girls' competitions and the club are looking for expressions of interests from girls of all ages. Of course, we have some girls already playing in the regular junior competition and this will continue.
Girls of all ages who are interested in girls-only competition can contact our Girls Co-ordinators, Margie Oldfield & Trina Quadrio
email@example.com to register their interest.
The junior competition caters for 9 – 17 year-olds, with modified rules for each age group. Game time increases progressively with U10s & U11s playing for two hours. U10 and U11 will play under new modified format as outlined in the Community Cricket info and the Cricket Australia Release( U10 & U11 applicable this season), and team sizes will be a bit smaller than previous years. Game format and team size for U12s will be unchanged from last year. U13s – U18s play for points and have a final series. Details of rules for each age group can be found here.
In 2016/17 the club had 27 junior teams, 13 of them being U10 and U11 age groups.
Season starts on the weekend of the 13th & 14th of October (tbc). Please note that for U13 and above, there may be some games scheduled in January.
The club forms teams based on the requirements of the game. As in any team game, team numbers are critical to the success of the season. Where requested the club will try to keep previous year’s teams together and are happy to try to accommodate requests based on friendship and school groups, but it is actually easier to accommodate requests to play with 2 or 3 friends rather than 8. However, parents and players must bear in mind that we need to be inclusive to new members, allocate all players to a team and balance numbers across teams. For these reasons we can’t please everyone. We ask parents to be mindful of this and reasonable in their expectations.
Please indicate on your enrolment any requests to play with friends, and indicate your coach/team from last season, via the enrolment comment section rather than a separate email. You can go back on and update your comments/requests after enrolment if need be.
The CJCC’s ruling on player age restrictions is: each age competition shall be restricted to players no more than 2 years under that age as at 30th June in the year the season commenced. There are some exceptions, for example girls playing in the regular comp can play 2 years below their age group. Contact the club if you require clarification.
This table can be used as a guide:
|Age (at 30 June)||School Year||Recommended Competition|
|7 yrs||2||T20 Blast|
|8 yrs||3||T20 Blast or U10|
Traditional game days are listed below. Our association offers the option of Saturday games for U10s & U11s, however this is difficult for the club to accommodate due to lack of grounds. The last few seasons the club has had a couple of teams play u10 and u11 on Saturdays, on the understanding that the grounds are closer to Bayswater/Morley. Please email separately about U10 & U11 Saturday cricket.
Training days & times will be determined by availability of individual coaches and grounds. The club cannot provide information about when a team may train until teams are formed and coaches have nominated their preferences.
All In2Cricket and T20 Blast (including Girls comp) players will be supplied with a shirt and no other uniform or equipment purchase is necessary.
All Junior players (U10 – U17) and Girls U13, U15 & U18 players must have a club shirt and hat and must play with white cricket pants.
Each team is supplied with a kit bag containing shared playing equipment. Players can opt to provide their own bat, helmet, box, etc if they wish.
The club is taking uniforms orders separately to registration, please click on the button below to order your uniform.
Our club is run and administered solely by volunteers. We rely on parents volunteering for coach & team manager roles. We also welcome more committee members. Please consider helping out in some capacity this season. You can indicate your willingness to help on the online registration enrolment, or contact the club by email.
Wembley are pleased to be able to continue their unique Development program for Players and Coaches delivered by Ken Lilly’s Coaching Academy. Specialist coaches will attend 2 training sessions during the season to assist players and coaches with skills.
The club also offer a specialist girls training program conducted down at Revo sports at the start of the season. These sessions focus on enhancing batting and bowling technique.
We are also running a Free Coaching Clinic for all WDJCC U10 & U11 Boys, U13 Girls and team coaches on Wednesday 11th October from 4.15 to 6.15 pm at Pat Goodridge Oval. Ken Lilly and his team will be leading the clinic and it will include skills sessions to develop the children's cricket skills while involving the team coaches. It should be a load of fun for the kids and coaches.
